Operation Encompass

Operation Encompass is a partnership between police and schools, a school can only join if the local police force has already joined Operation Encompass. However Key Adults are welcome to access the Key Adult Training even if they are not part of Operation Encompass

One of the principles of Operation Encompass is  that all incidents of domestic abuse are shared with schools, not just those where an offence can be identified.

Operation Encompass is very simple and easy to implement within a school.

Every school appoints a trained Key Adult  – the Key Adult is the person who receives information about police attended Domestic Abuse incidents.

The Key Adult will be notified prior to the start of the next school day that the police have attended an incident of domestic abuse. This timely information sharing  enables appropriate support to be provided for that child so that all interactions, from when the child first arrives at the school gates, are of a positive nature.

The Key Adult must be trained as a Designated or Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead and should attend a Key Adult Briefing.

Operation Emcompass

Mental Health Support 

Our school is linked to the Mental Health Support team which provides support for parents of children who are presenting with mild anxiety or behavioural issues. The team work with parents to support parents to identify goals in relation to their child and develop techniques to manage worry or tricky behaviours. The service is free and confidential and you can be referred via the Mental Health lead in the school Louise Tombleson . Please speak to Louise if you have any issues in relation to your child’s wellbeing, who will then consider whether a referral to the Mental Health Support team would be appropriate.

 

Education Inclusion Family Advisor

The post previously known as Early Intervention Family Worker has been re-evaluated under the County Council’s job evaluation scheme. As part of the review, the title has been revised as Education Inclusion Family Advisor, to recognise the full remit of the advisory responsibility to schools and parents and to align the service more closely to the Education Directorate and the Alternative Provision and Inclusion service specifically. The main aspects of the job remain the same, the EIFA will continue offering workshops and individual parenting advice.

There were several reasons for the job description to be re-evaluated, one of which was to accurately reflect the level of remit and responsibility that is expected from the role. Further, it was pertinent the Early Intervention differentiated from the District Family Worker post, to better align the job description to the nature of the work and the environment it operates within.

Short summary of the pertinent points that were considered and added during the review of the job description: 

  • Greater clarity around service objectives and strategic vision for the team
  • Aligned focus towards statutory functions around supporting families and schools in relation to emerging needs that link to reducing exclusion, increasing education engagement and reduction in families needing targeted support
  • Greater consistency across the County in relation to service delivery
  • Remove the historic title of ‘family worker’ which does not recognise the advisory nature of the work, particularly the support and advice provided to schools

Please see below the overview of the key accountabilities of the EIFA, as stated in the new job description:

The Education Inclusion Family Advisor will provide targeted support to families at an early stage of presenting need to help enable positive, sustainable change in their lives. The role will focus on fostering strong relationships with schools and parents to strengthen parental capacity, family relationships and to increase parental engagement in their local community and in their children’s education.

The EIFA will use a range of skills and specialist knowledge to deliver quality individual and group interventions which aim to minimise barriers and improve outcomes for children and their families. 

Helpline for victims of sexual abuse in schools

Sexual abuse in any form is unacceptable.

A dedicated helpline is now open to support anyone who has been a victim of sexual abuse. 

The helpline is run by the NSPCC and will provide victims of abuse with the appropriate support, advice and onward action, including on contacting professionals or the police if they wish. The helpline will also provide support to parents and professionals too.
