Personal Development
"Personal development is the conscious choice to improve one's life to become a better person and to grow as an individual".

PROUD: our school values, which are embedded into the way of life at Peckover and form the backbone of how we teach children to operate as responsible, respectful citizens of their school community, their local community and the wider world.
We are kind: through this value we teach children the importance of mutual respect, tolerance and understanding. We emphasise how members of our school community, and the wider community, look after and support each other.
We try our best: we teach children to try their best even when things are difficult, to be resilient and determined to achieve their goals. We encourage children to take pride in their achievements and recognise the effort they put in.
We make good choices: we teach children to recognise, name and understand their feelings and encourage them to develop strategies to regulate their emotions. We teach children to empathise with others and understand the impact of their words and actions on others.
We dream big: we encourage every child to believe in themselves and strive to be the very best that they can be. We ask children to set goals, articulate their ambitions for their futures and help them to understand the hard work that will be needed to be successful.
At Peckover, we not only want our children to succeed academically, but through our planned personal development offer we:
- inspire children to have high aspirations for their futures;
- support children to understand what it means to make a valuable contribution to society and how to do this;
- encourage children to apply for and take on leadership roles and fulfil the responsibilities associated with these.
To accomplish this, we not only provide children with a range of opportunities within the curriculum but also to make a wider contribution to society. Examples of this include:
- Groups of children visit the local church and share services with the school community at Christmas.
- Our Forest School is based on the meadow at the rear of the school and children support with the upkeep and maintenance of this wonderful area.
- Every year during Harvest Festival, children collect and donate to vulnerable members of the community.
- We run a Macmillan Coffee morning - this year we raised over £400
- Elderly members of the community receive Christmas cards from our school council.
