On Thursday 15th June, Year 5 went on a Bear Grylls day at the secret garden to learn some bush-craft and survival skills.

When we arrived, we had and interesting bug breakfast and a strange looking drink which is apparently Bear Grylls’ favourite! We spent the morning learning about different ways to start a fire, how to make tent pegs and how to use a tarpaulin to make a shelter.

After lunch, we had to complete an assault course to get our equipment. Then we had to work in teams to make a fire, put up our own shelter and boil two eggs on our fire. At the end of the day, we had an interesting way of testing our eggs (on team leader’s head) to see which team had boiled the perfect egg.

We had a totally amazing day – a huge thank you to Fenland Bushcraft, 20 Twenty Productions and The Secret Garden.
