COMPUTING

ICT Curriculum Intent

"Technology is unlocking the innate compassion we have for our fellow human beings." ~ Bill Gates

We believe that Computing is an essential part of the curriculum; a subject that not only stands alone but is woven and should be an integral part of all learning.  To ensure this, we created a purpose of study for our computing curriculum drawing influence from the National Curriculum and various experts within the field, such as STEM and the National Centre for Computing Education Programme:

Aims:

Our curriculum ensures all pupils:

  • can understand and apply the fundamental principles and concepts of computer science, including abstraction, logic, algorithms and data representation.
  • can analyse problems in computational terms, and have repeated practical experience of writing computer programs in order to solve such problems.
  • can evaluate and apply information technology, including new or unfamiliar technologies, analytically to solve problems.
  • are responsible, competent, confident and creative users of information and communication technology.

Implementation:

Computing is taught through discrete lessons for 1 hour per week using the Teach Computing as well as woven throughout other curriculum areas and as part of everyday school life.

As part of Teach Computing, we follow the long term map below:

Alongside the Teach Computing scheme, we weave computing through Design & Technology, researching online, digital art, our SMSC calendar etc. to ensure skills and knowledge are applied and embedded in context. The children also have access to laptops and a computer suite throughout the week.
