ICT Curriculum Intent

At Peckover, we teach ICT with the intention to equip our children to participate in a rapidly changing world. A world which has been transformed by technology.

Our intent is that children can use ICT to understand information in a variety of ways including finding information, exploring it and presenting their findings. In addition, to exchange information in a safe way i.e. through email.

ICT skills enable children to be confident and independent learners and at Peckover we ensure that our children have every opportunity to achieve this.

Esafety is of high importance and within our intent we place a strong emphasis on this. Within our ICT curriculum, we enable our children to have knowledge of the SMART rules and the necessary skills to support the decisions they make online.

Time is allocated to each class in our recently upgraded ICT suite to ensure all children have access to high quality recources.

ICT is a vehicle to support learning across the curriculum. ICT can be used to support the learning of times tables in maths for example and to commit this learning to long term memory.

All children (from Y2 upwards) use ICT to build knowledge organisers for their classroom themes thus committing key knowledge to long term memory once again.

In the classroom, the children have access to Learn pads and programmable toys which can extend and embed learning i.e. texts for guided reading, maps for geography lessons and directions in maths. The Learn pads have additional tools for photography and video recording.

Purple Mash is our learning platform which enables children to explore the curriculum as well as access email, blog facilities and esafety materials.

Links are made across the whole curriculum within the Purple Mash learning platform. Children can explore different theme such as The Victorians and The Egyptians to consolidate work in the classroom.

Purple Mash has further links to maths, literacy, science, music, art, geography as well as key ICT skills such as presentation and programming/control.
