Our Vision & Values

Statement on Vision and Values

At Peckover, our values are represented by PROUD.

Slide1

We use these values in every day of school life, whether it be persevering in an art lesson, being united on the playground, or trying a new skill or having a go at a new opportunity on a trip.

These values can be seen in action, in every classroom, in every lesson, at every lunchtime. We live and breathe our core values.

Peckover Primary School is committed to serving its community. It recognises the multi-cultural, multi faith and ever-changing nature of the United Kingdom. It also understands the vital role it has in ensuring that groups or individuals within the school are not subjected to intimidation or radicalisation by those wishing to unduly, or illegally, influence them.

The school accepts admissions from all those entitled to an education under British law, including pupils of all faiths or none. It follows the policies outlined by the Brooke Weston Trust regarding equal opportunities, which guarantee that there will be no discrimination against any individual or group, regardless of faith, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, political or financial status, or similar. It seeks to serve all.

The Government emphasises that schools are required to ensure that key ‘British Values’ are taught in all UK schools. The Government set out its definition of British values in the ‘Prevent Strategy’ – values of:

· democracy
· the rule of law
· individual liberty
· mutual respect
· tolerance of those of different faiths and beliefs

The school uses strategies within the National Curriculum and beyond to secure such outcomes for pupils. Here are some examples of when British values are shared:

Curriculum themes and topics

Our curriculum prepares children for life in British society, this includes developing the understanding and use of money, effective reading and writing skills, collaboration and discussion to research ideas and concepts. Curriculum themes include historical and geographical study in the context of the United Kingdom as well as national and international comparisons.

Every Christmas the performances of KS1 children are based on the Christian faith with a traditional Nativity play and the whole school attend a Carol Concert, to which parents are invited, at the local church – St Peters and St Pauls Parish Church, in Wisbech.

A large proportion of our pupils have recently arrived from Eastern European countries. We value and respect the pupils first language and culture whilst supporting families to feel welcomed and fully integrate them into everyday life of the school.

Acts of collective worship/ whole school assembly in line with regulation our assemblies are “wholly or mainly of a broadly Christian character.”

Our assemblies uphold traditional values of empathy, respect and tolerance and include times for reflection.

PSHE

Mutual respect is also taught within formal PSHE and RE lessons and on an informal nature throughout the school days. Pupils are encouraged to know, understand and exercise their rights and personal freedoms and advised how to exercise these safely. For example, through our E-Safety policy and PSHE work we remind the children how they can keep themselves safe.

RE

Tolerance of those from different faiths and beliefs is promoted in RE as children gain a greater understanding of religious diversity and practices for those religions represented in the UK. Planning for RE is directed by the Cambridgeshire Agreed Syllabus for Religious Education. The local Church and Baptist Chapel are visited as part of the RE curriculum and to celebrate key Christian festivals throughout the year.

PE

Promotion of the concept of “fair play”, following and developing rules, celebrating and rewarding success, accepting defeat and participating in activities that promote cooperation with others and inclusion for all.

School Council

Promotion of democratic processes through the election of school councillors. Fostering the concept of freedom of speech and group action to address need and concerns.

Involvement in key local and National events:

We celebrate and support all National events, eg. charity days, like Children in Need, Comic Relief and we also hold our own annual Sponsored Walk, with our parents, raising funds for a charity close to our hearts. In 2025, all of Key Stage 2 attended the National Young Voices Concert, at the O2 arena, which was a wonderful celebration of bringing 9,000 children, from various walks of lives and ethnicities and we will be repeating this again in 2026.
